Liam Hemsworth Secures a Role in Star-Studded 'Expendables II'

The Australian actor who plays Gale Hawthorne in 'Hunger Games' has been cast to join A-listers like Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the upcoming action-packed film.

AceShowbiz - Liam Hemsworth has nabbed another high-profile film project. According to Variety, the Australian actor, who will soon be seen as Gale Hawthorne in much-awaited film "The Hunger Games", has signed on to play in star-studded action movie "The Expendables II".

Along with the boyfriend of popstar Miley Cyrus, other notable thespians who have just been cast in the project were Jean-Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris. They are set to join the original cast ensemble that include A-listers like Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture.

Serving as a sequel to 2010's "The Expendables", the action movie is slated to open in theaters across the U.S. on August 17, 2012. Details about the project are still locked, but it has been unraveled that Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger will have bigger roles rather than just cameos.

The filming is expected to begin next month and will reportedly take place in China. Simon West will handle the directorial duty with David Agosto and Ken Kaufman penning the script.
