The 'Milk' actor is set to play in the film project which is based on a Korean thriller about a man who seeks revenge on the people who got him jailed for no reason.

"Oldboy" finally gets its leading actor. Deadline reported that "True Grit" actor Josh Brolin has sealed a deal to star in the Spike Lee-directed remake thriller, which is developed under Mandate Pictures.

The forthcoming project has been scheduled to begin production in March 2012. For the script, the studio have hired "Thor" screenwriter Mark Protosevich, who will also serve as the co-producer.

"Oldboy" is based on a 2003 Korean revenge thriller from Park Chan-wook. The story follows a recently paroled middle-aged man, who spent 15 years in prison without any explanation as to why he was jailed. He then seeks revenge on those who conspired against him.

Back in 2008, DreamWorks were actually planning to develop the remake. At that time, the studio were reportedly in the early talks with Steven Spielberg and Will Smith to direct and star in the project respectively. However, a deal had never been signed until it was confirmed that the remake will be done at Mandate with Lee serving behind the lens.

Josh Brolin himself has just wrapped the filming of "Men in Black 3" where he plays opposite Smith. He will begin the production of "Gangster Squad" in the near future, before he starts shooting "Labor Day" in June 2012.
