2011 MTV VMAs Pull Biggest Audience Ever for the Network

The Sunday (August 28) live telecast drew around 12.4 million viewers, and rank as the number 1 cable telecast of the year among viewers ages 12 to 34.

Adam Levine could slam MTV Video Music Awards for pretending to care about music, but this year's show has proven that it provided an amusing entertainment for people. The Sunday (August 28) telecast has set a record for the network with an estimated 12.4 million people watching it. The number is the biggest audience in MTV's history.

In addition to the record-breaking audience, the annual prize-giving event ranks as the number 1 cable telecast of the year among viewers ages 12 to 34, who made eight and a half million of the total viewers. The ceremony is also named the number 1 non-sports cable telecast of 2011 with total viewers, the network says.

Held at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, the 2011 MTV VMAs presented the top honor, Video of the Year, to Katy Perry. Among other highlights were Lady GaGa who showed up as her alter ego Jo Calderone, and Beyonce Knowles who announced her pregnancy on the black carpet.
