Britney Spears was one and the only special honoree at the 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards. The winner of 2011 Best Pop Video was saluted and cited as an inspiring figure by Lady GaGa who returned to the stage as Jo Calderone.
"Britney taught me how to be fearless, .. She's a pop legend and the industry wouldn't be the same without her," Jo said. He drew more cheering when saying, "I used to hang posters of her on my wall and touch myself when I was laying in bed."
He added, "Throughout the years, Britney has given us some of the most iconic music videos of our time." Right afterwards, a number of people came out dancing in the Southern Belle's trademark outfits like the "Hit Me One More Time" schoolgirl uniform and the "Oops..I Did It Again" red PVC suit.
When the dance tribute was over, Britney came to the stage to accept Vanguard Award from Jo. She was kissed on the cheek by Jo and seemed nervous when GaGa's male version eyed her lips. At first, she played along but then dodged it, and went to the mic to deliver her speech while Jo was eying her up and down.
