New 'Blade Runner' Film Finds Its Director

Ridley Scott
It is not Christopher Nolan like what the producers had hoped for but the film would be placed in the hand of the original director.

Back in March this year, producers Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson and Bud Yorkin revealed in an interview that they wanted Christopher Nolan to direct the remake of "Blade Runner" because they like what Nolan did to "Batman" film. Apparently, they didn't get what they wanted because the film's creator Ridley Scott has to dive in himself as both producer and director.

Per Deadline, the "American Gangster" helmer is committed to the untitled Blade Runner project which is developed by Alcon Entertainment. It is yet unclear however whether the 1982 sci-fi film follow-up would be a prequel, sequel or a spin-off.

This is not the only classic film revisit that Scott will do in near future. He has also signed up to direct the "Alien" franchise called "Prometheus" which would be unleashed in theaters June 8, 2012, with Damon Lindelof of "Lost" in charge of the screenplay.

When it was first released, "Blade Runner" did not make a great impact in the box office but grew to become a classic for its complex story and evocative imagery. Regarding what kind of story would be told in the new installment, Alcon is yet to have an answer other than "what our world will be like in our almost immediate near future" or "what the world is after 'Blade Runner'."
