As first reported earlier this month, "The Walking Dead" will add up new characters who become significant in season 2. The band of survivors would encounter a farm which has been ravaged by zombies but is a shelter to the remaining Hershel family.
Playing veterinarian Hershel Greene is Scott Wilson of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation". "He is the patriarch of the family," executive producer Gale Anne Hurd explained. "He's a veterinarian with a great sense of humanity and a very unique take on the Walkers." Hershel is "a Wilford Brimley type" who suffers a great heartache due to losing some members of his family. Wilson is picked because he shows "tremendous scope and gravitas."
Hershel's daughter Maggie is "in her twenties and is a survivor who ends up as a romantic interest for Glenn (Steven Yuen)," Hurd said as quoted by TV Guide. Filling this position is Lauren Cohan who has appeared on "Supernatural" and "The Vampire Diaries" among others. Hurd joked, "Steven's very excited!"
The other character found in the farm is a middle-aged ranch foreman called Otis who is "such a sweetheart that he all but loses it when he accidentally shoots a fellow survivor." Pruitt Taylor Vince has nabbed the role.
