Joey King Is China Girl in 'Oz: The Great And Powerful'

The 11-year-old actress reportedly lands the role of a girl who sees her family killed by the evil witch Evanora in the Sam Raimi-directed movie.


Walt Disney Pictures has added a new actress in the cast ensemble for "Oz: the Great and Powerful". Variety breaks the news, reporting that 11-year-old Joey King has secured a role of China girl in the action adventure movie.

Entirely made of porcelain, the China girl witnesses her family destroyed by the evil witch Evanora, allegedly portrayed by Rachel Weisz. Feeling sorry for the girl, James Franco's snake-oil salesman decides to become her surrogate father.

In such a young age, King has made several notable appearances, including starring as Ramona Quimby in "Ramona and Beezus". Through the role, she won 2011 Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a Feature Film - Leading Young Actress Ten and Under. She will next be seen in "The Dark Knight Rises".

"Oz: the Great and Powerful", which is recently slated for March 8, 2013 release Stateside, has Mila Kunis take female lead role of Theodora. Meanwhile, Sam Raimi helms the project, with Mitchell Kapner providing the script.
