'Country Strong' helmer Shana Feste has been hired to write and direct the big screen version of Carolyn Turgeon's book, which is a dark retelling of H.C. Andersen's 'The Little Mermaid'.
"The Little Mermaid" will have a different angle of perspective in a new film. After Disney made a movie about the beautiful sea creature, Sony Pictures has allegedly decided to make a big screen version of Carolyn Turgeon's novel "Mermaid: A Twist on the Classic Tale", a dark retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid".
Variety breaks the news that "Country Strong" helmer Shana Feste has been set to write and direct the upcoming movie. Tobey Maguire and Jenno Topping, who served as producers in "Country Strong", will once again team up to produce "Mermaid: A Twist on the Classic Tale".
The film revolves around a princess who develops a plan to marry a prince of her rival kingdom to save her people. However, things do not work out so nicely as she discovers that his heart belongs to a beautiful mermaid who has sacrificed everything to be with him.
