"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" has lowered the anchor at Anaheim, California, for its world premiere. On Saturday, May 7, Johnny Depp hit the premiere, which was held at Disneyland, in his black-and-white suit.
Depp, who reprises his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" film, looked neat with his new locks which was shorter than his old hair cut. Instead of doing interview with the press, he spares time with his fans.
Meanwhile, "Pirates" newcomer Penelope Cruz stole the spotlight with her dress. The 37-year-old Spanish actress, who stars as Angelica, stunned the crowd with her midnight off-the-shoulder custom gown from Marchesa. Her gown was embroidered with feather and jet crystal detail.
Various fun games have also become the main attactions of the event. Knife-throwing jugglers were showing off their skills. Guests were also treated with free rides during the event. Finally, the special screening ended with a firework.
Hitting the event, director Rob Marshall commented about the extravagant premiere to The Hollywood Reporter. "I've never seen anything like this before, I'm overwhelmed," so he said. "This is the prefect location for tonight because it's about fantasy and dreams."
The 50-year-old director also opened up about his thought towards the event to USA Today. "My jaw is just dropping," he said. "I've been to the Oscars, to the Golden Globes and many other premieres. But there's nothing like this."
Other cast members like Geoffrey Rush, Ian McShane, Keith Richards and Astrid Berges-Frisbey also hit the black carpet. In the meantime, other Hollywood actors spotted at the event include Ashley Tisdale, Eva Longoria, Emma Roberts, and Teri Hatcher.
"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" revolves around Jack Sparrow who crosses path with Angelica, a woman from his past. When Angelica forces him aboard Queen Anne's Revenge, the ship of Blackbeard, Sparrow finds himself cruising an unexpected journey to the fabled Fountain of Youth. "On Stranger Tides" is made in 3D and will open wide in U.S. theaters on May 20.
