It's Official: Scott Pelley to Replace Katie Couric as 'CBS Evening News' Anchor

The correspondent for '60 Minutes' will anchor the nightly news program effective on June 6, while he is still reporting stories for the CBS news magazine.

CBS has officially appointed Scott Pelley as the new anchor for "CBS Evening News". The correspondent for "60 Minutes" will replace Katie Couric, who has announced her imminent departure after five years at the network on April 26.

"Scott has it all. He has the experience, the credibility and he is among the very best reporters ever to work at CBS News," said Jeff Fager, CBS News chairman and "60 Minutes" executive producer. "In more than two decades at CBS News, he has distinguished himself at every level, right up to his current role at '60 Minutes,' where his work has been incomparable."

CBS News president David Rhodes added, "Scott is the ideal journalist to lead this broadcast. We're very proud to have him guiding this news organization's reporting each and every evening." Commenting on his new job, Pelley stated, "I am delighted to join the terrific team at the 'CBS Evening News'. It's a privilege to work alongside the most gifted and talented journalists in the industry."

The appointment is effective on June 6 and the broadcast will be re-named "CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley". Pelley will continue to report stories for "60 Minutes".
