The Bajan singer leads the pack with 18 nominations, while the Slim Shady and the Monster ringleader follow her with 16 and 15 nods respectively.
Nominees for 2011 Billboard Music Awards have been announced during a press conference at the Paris Hotel and Casino Las Vegas, Nevada. Taking the most nods are the likes of Rihanna, Eminem and Lady GaGa who frequently occupied the Billboard charts during the period of February 28, 2010 through March 1, 2011.
RiRi gets 18 nominations with "Love the Way You Lie", her joint track with the Slim Shady, appearing in six "song categories." She gets other nods for Top R&B Album ("Loud"), Top R&B Song ("What's My Name?"), and 10 nods in key categories including Top Artist and Top Female Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, and Top R&B Artist.
Eminem follows behind her with 16 nods. Beside sharing nominations in the six song categories with RiRi for their duet in "Love the Way You Lie", the rapper is also vying for coveted prizes in two album categories and eight key fields. The "Recovery" MC bumps into the Bajan songstress in at least five main categories.
GaGa trails behind the Slim Shady with 15 nominations. The Mother Monster gets eight in the main fields, four in the album categories, and three in the song lists. She has her three CDs, "The Fame", "The Fame Monster" and "The Remix", listed in Top Dance/Electronic Albums, and her singles, "Bad Romance" and "Telephone", in Top Dance Song.
The other artists who receive multiple nominations include Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber. The former faces off Rihanna, Lady GaGa, Ke$ha and Katy Perry in Top Female Artist, while the latter goes head to head against Eminem, Drake, Bruno Mars and Usher in Top Male Artist. The two young singers then bump into each other in Top Artist along with RiRi, GaGa and Eminem.
The awards show is going to air live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 22 on ABC. Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna have been booked as the performers along with Black Eyed Peas, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum and Taio Cruz.
