'Tomb Raider' Reboot to Come in 2013 and Tell Origin Story

GK Films has acquired film rights to the videogame featuring heroine Lara Croft which was portrayed by Angelina Jolie in 2001 and 2003 movies.

"Tomb Raider" is going to get another big screen treatment after being adapted into two movies. Producer Graham King announced on March 7 that his company GK Films has acquired the film rights to the videogame featuring heroine Lara Croft, and plans to reboot the action-adventure franchise.

"We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the TOMB RAIDER phenomenon," said King in a statement. He will produce the new film along with Tim Headington.

The untitled Tomb Raider reboot is promised to present "daring new adventures for the young and dynamic Lara Croft." Thus, it is believed another actress will be cast to portray Croft. Angelina Jolie previously played the character in 2001 "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" and 2003 "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life".

The first movie installment of "Tomb Raider" from GK is aimed to be released sometime in 2013. No director nor writer is attached to the project yet. Olivia Wilde was recently rumored to portray Croft but she has denied it.

Two original "Tomb Raider" movies were released by Paramount Pictures and grossed $423 million worldwide in total and raised Jolie to stardom. The first movie was directed by Simon West while the second one had Jan De Bont serving as the helmer.
