Kyle Ward is tapped to pen the script for the first installment of game-to-film franchise that follows a man who slaughters demons to avenge his mother's death.

Screen Gems has picked up feature film rights to Capcom's hit videogame series "Devil May Cry". Variety reports the studio may develop it as a new big game-to-film franchise like "Resident Evil" which has grossed more than $580 million collectively through its four films.

"Devil May Cry" video game itself was initially developed as the third installment of the "Resident Evil" games. But its design later started to deviate significantly from "Resident Evil" 's style and Capcom decided to developed it into a new property entirely.

Kyle Ward has been booked to write the script for the upcoming film project. According to the plot in the games, "Devil May Cry" will focus on Dante who avenges his mother's murder by killing off demons.
