Investigated 'Teen Mom' Went Into Couple Counseling

Amber Portwood's dad is upset that MTV didn't use a 'better judgment' by airing the assault incident which actually happened months ago.

While the police looked through for possible domestic abuse on "Teen Mom", Amber Portwood's father gave an interview that clarifies the air. In a recent episode of the reality show, Amber was caught beating the father of her child when she was upset of him. An anonymous e-mail was sent to Anderson Police Department to look at the matter closely.

Amber's father Shawn Portwood said everything is well now between Amber and Gary Shirley who became parents to Leah while there were teens. "It's my understanding they're doing just fine," Shawn told Radar Online. "They're going to couples counseling. ...You know, this happened months ago ...and things have changed a lot since then and they're doing something about it, especially after that."

Shawn added that the counseling was done in a few months since the incident was filmed, not aired. The dad is also surprised that MTV has chosen to air that part for the whole world to judge. He said, "It surprised me that it was even on TV and it was shown on TV. I don't even think it should've been shown on TV, to be honest with you. I think that MTV should've used better judgment, that's all I've got to say."

Department of Child Protective Services in the Portwoods' hometown are investigating the incident but Shawn is adamant that Leah is perfectly fine under the young couple's custody. "...Of course they have to check into it. It's they're job. But, I mean, like I said she's taken care of, they're good parents, they really are."

PLEASE!!! give me a break. Ambers Dad neecs to shut up. I am glad MTV aired the domestic satuation this is real life. Amber will never charge unless she grows up and respects Gary. Leah doesnt need to be around her. Yes you no her father would take up for her. She needs serios help more than a couple of month. Leah is in danger. Amber needs to get off her fat ass and clean that house and take care of Leah. Gary needs to take Leah and run not walk and get away for this bitch.

I agree with the other statements that if this situation were reversed, Gary would be prosecuted to the fullest extent and the viewers would be more outraged to step in sooner. I sure hope that Ambers dad is right in saying that they have done counseling and that things are better now, but I also hope that CPS stays in the picture for a while making sure of the saftey of Leah.

Obviously Amber is the one who should've used better judgement, not MTV.

if Gary had punched Amber in the face, hit, slapped, tried to kick her down the stairs, and called her a fat ass, he would be arrested immediately!!!! wtf?!!

if it had happened the other way around, ..Gary had assaulted Amber, it would all be different. he seems to bend over backwards to please her, and no matter what he (or his family for that matter) does, its never good enough for princess amber! that litle girl (Amber) needs to grow up!! if i was gary, i would fight for full custody of Leah, move as far as i could get from that little snot nosed brat, and never look back!! she has o heart for ANYONE but herself.
