Taking inspiration from Marlon Brando's 'On the Waterfront', the promo ad sees the Slim Shady with a bloody face following a horrible car accident on his way to the Chelsea Handler-hosted event.
Eminem's road trip to the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards is not an easy one. In the latest promo ad, the Slim Shady is seen involved in a car accident but he manages to get out of his damaged vehicle with a bruised and bloody face before it bursts into flames. A number of people line up offering their helping hands and then he leads them to walk their way to the Nokia Theater.
This might be a visualization of what Eminem has been through lately. He has battled drug addiction among other woes and he made it through the ups and downs with his loyal fans supporting him. His comeback album "Relapse" and its follow-up "Recovery" pulled in impressive selling number, proving that he indeed has a strong fanbase.
"They tell me that it's something for the VMAs, but I've been in my little rat hole. They just let me out to play," he told MTV about the promo. "So I'm kind of like that hamster in the ball, when they let him out and he runs around in the ball. I'm in my little ball right now, running around." Explaining inspiration behind his bloody scene, he stated, "It's kind of a take on 'On the Waterfront.' Like, loosely. The car is exploding and I'm hurt."
Eminem is one of the performers at the VMAs which will air live from Los Angeles on Sunday night, September 12 at 9 P.M. ET/PT. The other musical guests include Kanye West, Drake, Justin Bieber, B.o.B, Usher and Paramore. Nicki Minaj will also perform, but she is tapped to sing at the pre-show. In addition, she is going to present award along with the likes of Selena Gomez, Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Trey Songz, Ashley Greene and Justin Timberlake.
