Going mainstream without losing his authenticity is one of Mike Posner's keys to success in addition to hard-working ethic.
Turn your negative into positive, some say. When Mike Posner started his career as a songwriter and shopped around his songs to labels, he was often rejected. But he refused to back off, deciding to sing it with his own voice. The result is one of his tracks is burning the chart right now.
Containing mid-tempo catchy hook, "Cooler Than Me" is climbing Billboard Hot 100 higher and higher every week. From No. 14, the self-recorded song jumps to crack the Top 10 on the U.S. singles chart, sitting at No. 8 just behind Lady GaGa's "Alejandro" this week.
After several mixtapes, this Duke University graduate is now moving forward with plan to release a debut album. He eyes to release the effort in August this year with acclaimed producer Benny Blanco (Katy Perry, Britney Spears) on board.
On what he has to offer, Mike said he will fill the album with pop music. Despite the fact that there are already many pop artists, he promised his music will sound "like nothing else out right now." He explained a bit about the content, "There are songs that make me cry and others that make me jump up and down. I'm just trying, hopefully, to make people feel a fraction of what I feel."
Acknowledging that he's just getting started, Posner is confident he'll go the distance as long as his authenticity remains intact. "That's the most important word in my life," he told Reuters. "Once I lose authenticity, I've lost everything. I'll quit."
