Katy Perry Makes History by Rising to No. 1 on Hot 100
Knocking Usher's 'OMG', 'California Gurls' rules Billboard Hot 200 and becomes the fastest-rising single by a Capitol Records artist.

After four weeks on sale, Katy Perry's "California Gurls" finally reaches the No. 1 position on Billboard Hot 100. Scanning 318,000 downloads this week following her performance at MTV Movie Awards over the weekend, it becomes the fastest-rising single released by a Capitol Records artist in more than 40 years.

Back in August 1967, the label saw their signee Bobbie Gentry ruled the U.S. singles chart with "Ode to Billie Joe" after only four weeks in the market. Five months prior, The Beatles secured the first place on the list with "Penny Lane" also after being released for four weeks.

In addition to reigning Hot 100, "California Gurls" which features rapper Snoop Dogg on the hook also tops Digital Songs chart, marking for a third consecutive week it sits atop the list. Moreover, the first single of Katy Perry's August 24 release "Teenage Dream" jumps from No. 10 to No. 6 on Radio Songs chart.

A full recap of Billboard Hot 100 is announced on June 9.
