The next summer release is tentatively titled 'Rise of the Apes' and will be directed by 'The Escapist' helmer Rupert Wyatt.

20th Century Fox is going to bring the rise of the apes. The studio has announced on Thursday, May 6 that they are developing "Planet of the Apes" prequel which has been widely rumored before.

The film, which is tentatively titled "Rise of the Apes", is slated to arrive in U.S. theaters on June 24. This next summer release also has got its director, who is Rupert Wyatt, director of prison drama "The Escapist".

Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark from Chernin Entertainment are producing alongside Rick Jaffa. Jaffa is additionally hired to write the script, teaming up with Amanda Silver.

"Rise of the Apes" will be an origins story set in present-day San Francisco. The film will focus on man's own experiments with genetic engineering which lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

The original "Planet of the Apes" was made in 1968 with Charlton Heston starring in it. The remake version of the same title by Tim Burton was released in 2001 and has Mark Wahlberg among the cast ensemble. It sees astronaut Leo Davidson landing on a planet inhabited by intelligent humanoid apes and grossed more than $362 million worldwide.
