M.I.A. Sparks Controversy With Bloody Violent Video for 'Born Free'

The 34-year-old singer was mad when learning that her newly-released music video which is filled with NSFW content is banned from being watched in the United States.

M.I.A. has set tongues wagging after premiering a not-safe-for-work music video for her single "Born Free". Directed by Romain Gavras, the video follows a group of U.S. soldiers who invade a town and hunt down readheads to be massacred on the desert.

Some of videos posted on YouTube have been flagged for containing excessive violence, while the others were either removed or banned from U.S. viewing pleasure for the same reason. M.I.A. was first outraged over Universal Music Group, writing on her Twitter, "F**K UMG WHO WONT SHOW IT ON YOUTUBE! FOR THE U.S." Later on, she wrote, "OK NOT UMG FAULT!"

"Born Free" has been embraced by her devotees since earlier this month. It is expected to appear in M.I.A.'s forthcoming third studio album which is yet to be titled.
