Responding to her fan's disappointment on her departure, the actress tweeted, 'It's fine. It was Conan or that.'
After a long delay in the production for "Red Sonja", Rose McGowan has apparently left the project. The news was confirmed by the actress herself as she replied a tweet from her fan who seemed disappointed after finding out her departure.
"It's fine. It was Conan or that," she wrote on Monday, April 5 after her devotee claimed it is unfair that McGowan who has been attached to the movie since 2008 has to be replaced by Megan Fox. Moreoever, the "Charmed" star's statement hints that she had to choose between "Red Sonja" and "Conan", but she somehow landed her option to the latter.
Along with rumor of McGowan's departure which sparked on April 3 there has been word that Fox will take over the lead role. However, the "Transformers" beauty's personal publicist has debunked it, claiming report of her being offered the part in "Red Sonja" is "not true."
Back in late 2009, McGowan put the production of "Red Sonja" in hiatus after she had a serious injury while doing a stunt for her other movie "Grindhouse". Later, the film about the heroine seemed stalled as it did not show any progress though it was originally aimed for 2010 release.
As of late, producer Robert Rodriguez has addressed the issue, claiming the project was still put on halt because the company which owns the movie had "financing problems". A source has also insisted that "Red Sonja" is far from dead and Millineum Films is now looking for a new writer.
Adapted from Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith's comic series, "Red Sonja" follows the story of a young girl who lost her family and everything she has to a group of mercenaries. Seeking revenge, the red-head becomes the most feared female warrior of all time.
Meanwhile, "Conan" will center its story on iconic figure Conan the Cimmerian and his adventures across the continent of Hyboria. Chosen as the depicter of the title character is Jason Momoa, while Marcus Nispel will serve as helmer.
