Barbara Walters Ending Her Reign on Oscar Night Special

Barbara Walters

Walters said she has 'been there, done that' with her annual special that sees celebrities being peeled about their project and personal life in the wake of Oscar gala.

Through her appearance on "The View", Barbara Walters announced that starting 2011, she won't continue having Oscar night special which she has done in the last 29 years. Thus, this year's "Barbara Walters Special", which will be aired before the Oscars on March 7, will be her last.

"ABC has asked me to keep doing these specials as they have been so successful," Walters began. "And I'm thrilled we have such great stars and have such a wonderful show - but to be honest, I feel like I've 'been there, done that'."

She continued, "This special has been a labor of love for 29 years. I will always remember when Hugh Jackman gave me a private lap dance or sitting down with the legendary Bette Davis or being taught to tango by Al Pacino. It's those priceless moments that have made this special the Oscar tradition that it has become, but I truly feel enough is enough."

In the past several years, the Oscar night special has had a steady rating that averages 12 million viewers. This year, her guests include Best Actress nominee Sandra Bullock and Best Supporting Actress nominee Mo'Nique. There will also be a montage of memorable events from the special.

It is unclear whether Barbara Walters will be replaced by another host. Meanwhile, she will continue her stint as the annual host of "The 10 Most Fascinating People".
