was quick to respond to controversy surrounding his raunchy performance at 2009 American Music Awards. He said any backlash against the stage act is "a form of discrimination and a double standard" because "female entertainers have been risque for years."

"It's a shame because I think that there's a double standard going on in the entertainment community right now," he explained to Rolling Stone backstage after the show at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre. "Female performers have been doing this for years - pushing the envelope about sexuality - and the minute a man does it, everybody freaks out."

"We're in 2009; it's time to take risks, be a little more brave, time to open people's eyes and if it offends them, then maybe I'm not for them. My goal was not to piss people off, it was to promote freedom of expression and artistic freedom."

Adam Lambert's performance at AMAs saw him stimulating oral sex, kissing his male keyboardist, gesturing audience with his middle finger and doing other sexually-charged acts. ABC has cut the stimulated oral sex but decided to keep the kissing scene. This has drawn complaints from more than 1,500 people. The November 22 stage act also got negative review from Parents Television Council (PTC).

PTC released a statement saying, "Last night's 'American Music Awards' broadcast was nothing short of tasteless and vulgar. Adam Lambert, the second-place finisher in last season's '' competition, chose to treat American families to simulated oral sex and other demeaning behavior."

"ABC and Dick Clark Productions had every reason to know what to expect, as Lambert himself proclaimed that his performance would be 'very sexy' and would include leather and chains. But the producers and the network chose to bury their heads in the sand."

ABC calls the 1,500 complaints as a "moderate" amount. Meanwhile, producers for AMAs Dick Clarks Production said from the rehearsals, they were unaware of what Adam had planned. "We did not expect the impromptu moments," a spokesperson for the company stated. Adam himself admitted that one of his acts, the kissing part, was "in a moment" and not a planned routine.

Adam's performance is deemed one of the most provocative TV moments since locked lips with at 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.

Adams performance was fine. People are trippin because he DID what madonna and others have been doing. ABC isnt naive and Ims ure they had a clue as to what Adam would do. He has been rehearsing this stuff and you dont see anything different in the rehearsel vids. Get over it people. Your so worried about your kids seeing stuff, I guarentee kids have seen much worse and they themselves are doing more than I ever did at their age. Hell they are doing more than I do and Im 32. People are spouting about morals and stuff and yet their are no morals in the home the kids live in. Im not saying that is all of our society but it is a reality. If your so concerned about what your kids are watching then why were they watching and being up so late anyways? His choreography and vocals were awesome. We mourned Michael Jackson and hailed him a king and yet he has been crotch grabbing and doing stuff too. People are hypocrits if they are going to chatize Adam for doing what Madonna, and others have been doing for years. He did well for singing and all the choreography that took place. I loved his perofrmance and his albums is amazing. He has major talant and I spend major bux to see him in concert and see a stellar show. I would definitly be entertained!

You should read the ultra-conservative view points about this story on FOX NEWS. Dang man.... so many conservatives trying so hard to protect their children from the real world. It's really sad.

ADAM YOU HAVE A GIFT FROM GOD. I ADORE YOU. MICHAEL JACKSON WAS SO SEXY BUT HE KNEW WHERE TO DRAW THE LINE. I'M A WIFE OF A CELEBRITY AND A OWNER OF A GROWING FINE ARTS COMPANY. I WOULD NOT HIRE YOU IF YOU CONTINUED ON THAT ROAD. LIKE I STATED YOU ARE A GENIUS WIT MUSIC BUT HAVE NO COMMON SENSE ABOUT MAKING YOUR SELF A GREAT ICON. MARKETING DEPARTMENT OF CALIFORNIA.

I love Adam... his AMA performance was a bit much and sooooo uncessary for such a REAL talent... I was put off by it but I still feel he has more talent in his baby finger than most the performers at the AMA have in their entire bodies.... I mean 98% was a bunch of males talking some rap crap while the women tried to sing!!!

Please guys. Concerned parents or not, we have no right to order performers around. I mean, c'mon, Adam's right, it is 2009! Time to take risks! Do stuff that people hadn't had the chance to do. Also, if you parents really are concerned for your children, then turn them to Taylor Swift; to those Disney Channel hippies (though you might want to watch out for Miley).

Adam is one artist that is true to himself and he gives his all to anything he does. That was a down and dirty song and that's where he went. Wait till you see him do Broken Open he will be utterly elegant. We need good ole morals like David Bowie and Lou Reed who inspired average guys to dress up in drag just for fashion or more like Elvis who was a known womanizer and loved to infuse hip thrusts into his songs; or do we mean like KISS whose tongue was about oral sex and Gene loved to share his exploits. Please Adam's performance was just passion and performing - Chill folks!! Adam's album sales are up and they should be because it is a fantastic album.

Ok, it’s one thing to say that censorship is wrong, but where exactly is the line? I mean I understand, but that was not just a kiss, he was taking a man’s face and pushing it into his crotch, its supposed to be about music, he has too much talent to make such a bad image of himself. He was focusing too much on the choroegraphy too, he sounded like Mickey Mouse. I don’t mind that he’s gay, but geez, you don’t have to completely go overboard in public, that’s not censership. that’s just completely doing as much sexually offensive things as he can. I’m through with Adam after this. It’s a shame too, what a waste.

Yeah like in the good old days of world war 1 and 2. There was no violence back then. Stop expecting the TV and society to parent your children and there will be less violence everywhere.

I agree, there is no respect for themselves or anyone else. As long as they can get their 15 minutes, they will do anything, even sell their souls.

I think performers need to get off of their high horses and realize it is the younger generations that like and buy there music, so the performers need to show some respect. In todays society we need to bring back the good old morals to our children and maybe there would not be so much violence.
