"The Princess and the Frog" soundtrack won't be available for purchase in stores across United States until November 23, but snippets to the original songs and scores featured in the album have been made available for listening. All of the 17 tracks are streamed in parts at the film's soundtrack page of Walt Disney Records website.
The album consists of 10 original songs and 7 original scores. While the orchestral scores are composed and conducted by Academy Award-winning composer Randy Newman, most of the songs are performed by the cast ensemble, Anika Noni Rose, Keith David, Michael Leon-Wooley, Bruno Campos, Jim Cummings and Jenifer Lewis.
Beside the cast, Grammy Award-winning artists Dr. John and Ne-Yo also contribute to the album. Dr. John comes with "Down in New Orleans" track, and Ne-Yo offers his new song "Never Knew I Needed". The latter single will be the featured end credit in the movie and has been put out in Urban, Urban AC and Rhythmic radio since October 14. Plans for the video, directed by Melina, will be announced shortly.
"The Princess and the Frog" itself marks Disney's return to hand-drawn animation. It comes from director duo, John Musker and Ron Clements. Set in the great city of New Orleans, it follows a young African-American girl named Tiana, a frog prince who desperately wants to be human again, and a fateful kiss that leads them both on a hilarious adventure through the mystical bayous of Louisiana.
This 2-D animation will get a limited release in New York and Los Angeles starting on November 25, before going wide in theaters across the U.S. on December 11.
