'The Expendables' Pushed Back Four Months
Movie

While the Sylvester Stallone-directed action movie is moved into summer 2010 slate, Matthew Vaughn's 'Kick-Ass' gets a late spring release.

AceShowbiz - "The Expendables" will arrive in theaters across the United States four months later than what has been scheduled earlier. Originally planned to blast into the cinemas on April 23, 2010, the Sylvester Stallone-directed actioner has been pushed back into a summer slate and now eying an August 20, 2010 release.

The news of the release date shift has come from Lionsgate itself. The studio tweeted on Tuesday, September 1, "EXPENDABLES arrive 8/20/10". With the new date, "Expendables" will come out a week before Paul W.S. Anderson's "Resident Evil: Afterlife" is expected to make its debut in theaters on August 27.

Beside announcing "Expendables" new release date, Lionsgate also unraveled when "Kick-Ass" will be made available on big screens. Through the same Twitter post, the studio revealed that April 16, 2010 will be the date the live-action adaptation of John Romita Jr. and Mark Millar's comic book series to open wide in the States.

A hard-hitting action/thriller, "The Expendables" centers on a group of mercenaries hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its ruthless dictator. Soon after their mission begins, the group led by Barney Ross realizes things aren't quite as they appear and finds themselves caught in a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal.

Directed and penned by its leading star Sylvester Stallone, the movie has Steve Austin, Dolph Lundgren, Brittany Murphy, Charisma Carpenter and Randy Couture among the star-studded cast ensemble. It was shot in locations, such as Brazil, New Orleans and Los Angeles starting on March 28.
