AceShowbiz - The fourth annual Scream 2009 will take place in less than two months. With that in mind, Spike TV released the list of nominees for the awards honoring the best in sci-fi, fantasy, horror and comic genres on Monday, August 31 and unraveled that "Star Trek" has shot to the top of the list with 17 nominations.
Among the multiple counts it collected, this J.J. Abrams-directed sci-fi was vying for The Ultimate Scream, Best Science Fiction Movie, Best Director, Best Ensemble, Holy Sh*t! Scene of the Year and the new Fight-to-the-Death Scene of the Year category. It also grabbed nominations for four of its major cast, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and Eric Bana.
Standing in "Star Trek" path on winning the titles were "Drag Me to Hell" and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen". Both movies were listed as the sci-fi movie's competitors in a number of categories from The Ultimate Scream to Fight-to-the-Death Scene of the Year. "Drag Me to Hell" will also compete with "Star Trek" for The Holy Sh*t! Scene of the Year and Best Villain.
"Star Trek" was not the only movie collecting multiple nomination from Scream 2009. Two of this year's blockbuster movies, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and "Watchmen", have nabbed 13 nominations each. In the meantime, HBO's vampire drama "True Blood" took hold on 9 nominations, mostly for its leading actors and actresses.
The Scream 2009 gala ceremony where the winners are announced will be taped on Saturday, October 17 at The Greek Theater in Los Angeles. Spike TV will air the two-hour extravaganza on Tuesday, October 27 from 10:00 P.M. ET/PT. The show will also feature exclusive world premieres from some of the most anticipated movies of 2010. Presenters and musical performers will be announced shortly.
Winners of Scream 2009 will be determined by online voting at scream.spike.com. Fans can cast vote for their favorites beginning Monday, August 31. The voting line will be closed on Saturday, October 17. Parts of the nominees can be read below, while the full list can be obtained via Scream's official site.
