After giving Cobra Starship, Leighton Meester, Taylor Swift, Ne-Yo and Russell Brand an individual screen appearance, MTV finally gathers them all in one star-packed commercial ad for this year's MTV Video Music Awards, which is inspired by West Side Story's musical number "Tonight". The network also adds Katy Perry's part.
Scenes where Cobra Starship and Leighton hit a vintage subway car, Taylor sings inside a cab as well as Ne-Yo and Russell Brand boogie down New York streets are mashed up in one clip. As for Katy's footage, it shows the "I Kiss a Girl" hitmaker gardening on top of skyscraper.
The 26th Annual MTV Video Music Awards will be held on September 13 and hosted by Russell Brand. Taylor Swift, Muse, Green Day, Pink, Jay-Z and Lady GaGa are tapped to sing at the event. Meanwhile, Nelly Furtado, Leighton Meester, Miranda Cosgrove, Katy Perry, Ne-Yo and Chace Crawford will present awards at the ceremony.
As for its nominations, Beyonce Knowles leads the pack with nine nods alongside Lady GaGa. Following their domination with seven gongs is Britney Spears. Fans can vote for the awards' winners by logging on to VMA.MTV.com. Those who are Verizon subscribers can determine the winners by texting VMA to 97979.
