Comic Con 2009: Dominic Monaghan Indeed Joins 'Flash Forward'
TV

His return to ABC was made as if his role on 'Lost' is back, but finally it is confirmed that he is a character on the new series.

AceShowbiz - The worst kept secret has been verified during "Flash Forward" panel at San Diego Comic Con this year. Instead of reviving his Charlie Pace character on "Lost", Dominic Monaghan was on the ABC promo as a new character on "Flash Forward". His role, however, was neither specified nor will it appear on the two-hour pilot this Fall.

"Is Dominic Monaghan going to be on the show?" was in fact the first question thrown at the panel. Co-creator David S. Goyer refused to answer the question, saying "We're not going to tell you". Nonetheless, they ran a series of clips from the show toward the end of the presentation, which eventually show Monaghan in the last one. It was then that Goyer formally confirmed that "the bassist from Driveshaft" is in the show.

Goyer was careful not to spill too much on Monaghan's character, only mentioning that the name is Simon, and that "he's kinda a game-changer character who f***s up a lot of things."

"Flash Forward" will premiere on September 24 at 8/7c. It tells about a phenomenon where everyone in the world passes out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds and has a vision of the future. But it centers on newly sober Mark Banford (Joseph Fiennes), an FBI agent who is patching up his life and marriage.

Although it bears Monaghan and similar sci-fi qualities, Goyer emphasizes that "Flash" is none like "Lost". He explained, "Nothing is ever going to be the new 'Lost'," adding " 'Lost' is this genre-breaking show that was its own thing, unique and daring and challenging. I thought, if they're courageous enough to put that on the air, they'll be courageous enough to put ('Flash') on the air."
