The 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' star as well as James McAvoy and David Tennant reportedly are the candidates for the role of Bilbo Baggins in Guillermo del Toro's 'The Hobbit'.
Daniel Radcliffe could be moving on from the "Harry Potter" series to "The Hobbit". Reporting on the actors rumored to be potentially cast as lead character Bilbo Baggins, Los Angeles Times through its Hero Complex blog listed the 19-year-old actor among other possible candidates, which allegedly include "Doctor Who" actor David Tennant and "Atonement" star James McAvoy.
Should the casting rumor is proven true, the filming schedule may not be favorable to the "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" lead actor. Radcliffe is currently committed to finish the boy wizard franchise with "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II" on the line, while "The Hobbit" eyes to start production later in the year for a 2011 release.
Geoff Boucher of Hero Complex also noted that there is a possibility that director Guillermo del Toro will be making an announcement of who will be tackling the main character of the J.R.R. Tolkien's adaptation next week. He furthermore suggested that the director may be using "The Hobbit" panel at San Diego Comic Con 2009 on Thursday, July 23 as the platform for the announcement.
"The Hobbit" is taken from J.R.R. Tolkien's novel of the same title and made into two-part movies. The movies will re-create the scenes of the novel, with additional events that make an impact to "The Lords of the Rings", such as the expulsion of Sauron from Mirkwood by The White Council. The first movie is scheduled for December 2011 U.S. release, while the second one is expected to hit theaters across the U.S. a year later.
Previously, Guillermo del Toro has revealed that the shooting will start in March 2010 and go on for about 370 days. Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis are all said to reprise their "The Lord of the Rings" roles as Lord Elrond, Gandalf and Gollum respectively in this adventure fantasy.
