Details of Disney's 'Tomorrowland' Laid Bare
Movie

During the press junket for 'The Hangover', writer duo Jon Lucas and Scott Moore discuss about their upcoming project based on the Tomorrowland section of Disney's theme parks.

AceShowbiz - Screenwriters, Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, have finished a draft for an untitled Tomorrowland project and shared details to the press gathering in the junket of "The Hangover". At the event held Sunday, May 17, in Las Vegas, they teased on what year the film will be taking place and what kind of story they were developing.

Asked about when the movie is set, Moore revealed that it will take place about 350 years in the future. On the reason why, Lucas added as quoted by Sci Fi Wire, "It's hard, because when you go back and watch good sci-fi, it's like the year 2010, and we're in 2010, and Kevin Costner's not walking a mule around. You have to put it far enough that people in the theater aren't openly laughing at the concept, but it can't be so far. Things are changing so quickly that in 300 years things will probably be pretty unrecognizable."

As for the story, Moore went on explaining that the film will revolve around Rip, a test pilot to be played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. "In Tomorrowland his character's name is Rip, and he plays a present-day test pilot who tests a plane and gets shot into the future," he said. "So he's a sort of a fish out of water in the future, and he is sort of figuring out how everything works. Along the way, the people in the future don't know who he is, and they actually think he's bad guy bent on destroying the future."

In September 2008, Walt Disney Pictures have announced that they are developing a movie based on one of their theme parks' section known as "Tomorrowland". At the time, the studio denied that the film will be named after the section, but stressed that the setting will be inspired by the futuristic setting of the area.
