'Bioshock' Suffers From Over-Budget, Put on Hold
Movie

Director Gore Verbinsky takes the order from Universal Pictures to move the shooting location of 'Bioshock' in order to lower the costs.

AceShowbiz - The wheel of "Bioshock" has to stop moving when cost becomes a problem to continue the production. Universal Pictures have halted the pre-production and are taking steps to lower the rising cost in order to put the film within the budget range.

According to Variety, the pic was looking forward to shoot in Los Angeles but the budget swells up to $160 million. The studio have since let go some staff and are seeking alternatives to lower the costs, including considering to move the shooting location outside U.S. to benefit the tax credit.

"We were asked by Universal to move the film outside the U.S. to take advantage of a tax credit," director Gore Verbinski said. "We are evaluating whether this is something we want to do. In the meantime, the film is in a holding pattern." Variety mentioned that one of the considered locations is London.

Universal acquired the right to bring the bestselling Take-Two Interactive video game into big screen last year in a multi million dollars deal. Expected to be released in 2010, the movie follows the story of a plane crash survivor named Jack, who must explore the underwater Objectivist-dystopian city of Rapture, and survive attacks by the mutated beings and mechanical drones that populate it.
