I saw both Dennis Franz and Jodie Foster in Century City at the market and shopping fairly recently. He could be Marino, but someone rounder less sharp might be better. And Foster is short and slender and that doesn't seem to fit the Kay role. If the movie is well written and directed the actors will become the parts. I, too, have read all her novels, and I think, unfortunately, they have deteriorated and become absurd.

I do not dislike Jolie but I must agree she is not good for the role. Laura Linney and yes even Jodie Foster would do well is this role. I think Evan Rachel Wood would make a great Lucy and Dennis Franz is a perfect Maroni. Richard Gere is a natural for Benton

I have been reading Patricia Cornwell novels for YEARS, and, since I cast all books I read, imagined the characters to be played by these actors: Kay- Cheryl Ladd Marino- Dennis Franz Lucy- Alicia Witt Wesley- James Brolin True, some of these actors have aged since I first cast them, but try as I may I can't see Angelina as a Kay Scarpetta, for all the reasons named. I LOVE AJ and all of her accomplishments, which were successful because she was properly cast. I don't think it would be a flop, but it could possibly be "lukewarm", which would be a real let down for fans who have waited so long for this.

don't wreck my image of who kay scarpetta is, jolie is all wrong, i think sharon stone would be a better suit for the role and pierce brosnan for benton, jolie would be better suited for lucy, but please not scarpetta, i propably wouldn't waste my money to see that

I am shocked! being an avid reader of the scarpetta books I cannot visualise Angelina in the role as Kay Scarpetta. I would much rather see Diane Lane in the part. In angelina;s defence she is a superb actress, could she be lucy?

Just like the other folks, I have read all the books and love them. When I saw Jolie as Scarpetta, I thought you must be thinking of someone other than Scarpetta. Get someone that fits. Kay Scarpetta has class, not Jolie!!!

I suppose doing a "Bourne Identity" to these books will find a different audience. I watched the films first, then read the book and loved them being totally different! So I am looking forward to the film, whoever plays the lead. AJ could be distracting or make it a big hit.

Angelina Jolie is totally wrong. Yes I agree that Jodie Foster would be good and Dennis Franz as Marino would be perfect!!

I think Angelina jolie would be really good considering her good looks and tough image. Look at her in Wanted i think she did a great job. As for the blonde look i think Uma thurman would be good she was good in Kill Bill.

kay scarpetta should be played by jodie foster, marino is james gandolfini, richard gere is benton and lucy should be rachel mcadams.love jolie but she is not scarpetta.

Its seems pretty one sides here NO ANGELINA. I completely agree. The person that mentioned Hellen Mirren and Sarandon are too old to play Scarpetta. Gandolfini would be a good Marino but would have to gain about 40 pounds, I like the idea of Dennis Franz better. I think someone tougher than Richard gere should play Benton though, remeber he was in the FBI, and faked his death and all. Casting Kay is tough. Jodie Foster is to butch and too short, we need someone with class and humility. What about McAdams as Lucy?

I really enjoy all of the Scarpetta books and have read them over and over. When it comes to making a movie, they SHOULD focus on one book at a time. Mostly females read her books, and I personally am not into the way seven was filmed. Additionally, I agree with everyone else, NO ANGELINA JOLIE! She does not represent the visual picture of Kay Scarpetta that is painted in the books. What's next? Brad Pitt as Marino? Please, cast people that are visually in-line with the characters and do one book at a time.

Jolie is unbelievable as Scarpetta. Jodi Foster....Perfect! I always see NYPD's Dennis Franz as Morino have all the books and read them all..and we are all getting old waiting for the movie...actresses included

I have read all of PC's books, the Scarpetta ones being my favorites. ANgelina has the toughness that Kay possesses but that is it. She seems like everything that Kay isn't. She is not a blond hair blue-eyed Italian. I have a completely different vision of her physically. I'm interested to see how this is going to work out.

It would seem that the only one to play Patricia Cornwell is herself! The novels are all about herself (Lucy is her lesbianism) and she obviously thinks she is beautiful and the most intelligent person on the planet and doesn't mind idiots like annoying and pitiful Marino whom should have been killed off early on to spare the reader. I stopped reading by mid "The Last Precinct" because of Dr. Ego and Marino, and psycho dribble. Jolie is all wrong for this part, but I'm already so disappointed that the series became boring, annoying, and transparently egotistical.

Jolie would be the worst choice... Her looks, her style, her age... everything about her is so anti-Kay... The movie will be a complete disaster!

I am not sure if Jolie would be too young - she is maturing and her adaptability factor is high. I like the idea of Sharon Stone or Laura Dern or even Julianne Moore. For Lucy, Jolie might be too old, as Lucy is in her 20's - Lucy is tough as nails and Jorja Fox would be a great idea as would Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel. I love the idea of Richard Gere as Benton, too. I am anxiously awaiting the casting and hope that Patricia Cornwell has some say in who plays who, after all, its her creation.

I love the Scarpetta novels, and have read all of Cornwell's novels. Jolie is totally wrong. Jodie Foster would be great. Jorja Fox would be a fantastic Lucy.

I have been reading the Scarpetta series for years. I agree, she is not the right actress to portray this character. I also agree that Jodi Foster will also be a good choice. As will James Gandolfini as Moreno. I can just picture him as this character. As, for Lucy, someone who is not so feminine. I hope that they do not ruin these characters in the book. Patricia Cornwell is such a talented writer, I'd hate to see damage done. I'd like to see a series of these done, like the Nora Roberts books. All I know is that I can really get into the book & visualize the characters & Angeline Joli is not the one of choice.

I am a massive fan of the Scarpetta series and Angelina Jolie is not the right fit! She is too young-as someone else mentioned Kay is understated/mature-they have to have someone older!!! Jodie Foster would be magnificent in the role! Really no way can Angelina pull this one off!!!

Jollie is too young too fragile looking. Sharon Stone would fit the part better. She projects strength, intelligence and is also an attractive blonde as is Scarpetta's description.

I have read all of the Scarpetta novels and Jolie is not the right actress. Don't know how anyone would think that she's a good fit. But, that's Hollywood for you. Dennis Franz would make a good Pete Marino, btw. I actually thought they would never bring the series to screen because of the flood of CSI programs.

There really is only one choice for a Big Screen Kay Scarpetta and that is Miss Jodie Foster! The actress that Cornwall stated years ago is the only person she would consider to brind Scarpetta alive!

I think Angelina Jolie is a very beautiful and talented actress. But she is absolutely NOT Scarpetta in any way, shape or form. This is a mistake!

she is so wrong for the role, I can't even put it in words. i have been waiting a VERY long time to finally get my favourite heroine to be portrayed in a movie but PC always rejected the scripts because of lack of greatness and now she going to let fox ruin it for jolie? i don't think so! at least i hope not!!! XOXO from germany!

Even if i'm a big Jolie's addicted i agree on the fact that she's far too young and not mature enough for playing KS... lucy could be a good hit for her... however let's see maybe she could surprised us all

How did this happen? There are several actresses who could play this role effectively like Helen Mirren, for example. Jolie--what on earth? She is not a qualified enough actress. Bad pick guys.

I actually see the lady from the show Bones playing Kay, not Angelina.

angie will be awesome like she was in bone collector. People do not underestimate this actress she deserves respect for being an Oscar winner. I think alot of people are jealous of her, how petty.

I agree...Jolie is too young. Laura Linney or Susan Surandon would be better suited. James Gandolfini would be a great Marino and I like a James Brolin type for Benton. I've read every Scarpetta book and I know these characters. Jolie cannot/should not try to play this part.
posted by rangehound on Apr 23, 2009
Angelina is no Kay. Susan Sarandon is Kay. If Jolie has to be in this project she would be better suited as Scarpetta's niece. Better yet, keep her away. P. Cornwell, don't let Jolie ruin your good thing.

Laura Linney would do well, maybe Kyra Sedgewick? But NOT Jolie!!!! PLEASE think about this!!!! Have the casting people REALLY thought this through?? Have they EVER read the books? I think not!!!
posted by emmysmom on Apr 23, 2009
i am an avid cornwell reader and i am also not sure if angie is the right choice...but i can say in her defense she has been able to adapt to any character set in front of her. i think james gandolfini would be a great marino, and i think benton seems kinda richard gere-esk...i think they should cast gloria stuart as rose, and i think maybe winona ryder would be a good lucy...i am inclined to agree with the others in saying maybe laura linney would be better suited for kay....

There goes credibility. She's too young to be KS and totally wrong for the part anyway. Too one-faced.

She s too young i think they should get someone like julianne moore

I don't like that bitch. She is a home wrecker and she need to get her worthless piece of shit husband and her 4,000 kids and get and leave Jennifer anniston the fuck alone and get out of the Hollywood business and go away, because she know nobody like her or her movies. I don't like her attitude either.

I've read all of the KS series (as of today) and think Jolie will be good in the role. I look forward to the movie(s).

Jolie does not have the maturity to pull off this role! Anyone who has read the series knows that Kay is humble, sexy but understated and not obsessed by her appearance. CHOOSE SOMEONE ELSE!
posted by AW on Apr 22, 2009
Jolie Rocks! She is the hottest thing in Hollywood, let alone the planet...

Obviously we have a bunch of haters who have probably never even read Cornwell's books... If you know Cornwell, and her dynamic character, Jolie is actually a great fit for the role and will do it justice. As for the other facts and comments -- wow you need to get over it and move on!

SHE IS TOO YOUNG. SHE IS ALSO TOO SEXY LOOKIG. KAY SCARPETTA HAS CLASS AND MATURITY. MORE OF A GRACE KELLY THAN JOLIE.
