Rumor has it, Tom Cruise is planning a remake to western classic "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". The Daily Express suggested the matter, writing that the 46-year-old actor/producer intends to produce the remake movie through his United Artists and that a senior executive has said the actor has interviewed potential screenwriters.
"It has been a pet project of his that has been on the back-burner for years," the publication quoted the executive as explaining. "But now he's ready to go, and will most likely happily eschew the enormous salary that he normally commands." Another source was quoted, "Butch and Sundance is a labor of love for Tom. He was eight years old when he saw the original and it made an impression that has stayed with him all his life. He can't wait to get to work."
In addition to producing the remake, the actor who is last seen starring as Claus von Stauffenberg in "Valkyrie" reportedly eyes to play Sundance, who was played by Robert Redford in the original film. He is also said to be using the project as the chance to work together with John Travolta, who allegedly will fill in the shoes of Paul Newman's Cassidy.
Neither United Artists nor Tom Cruise's representative has made any comments, confirming or denying the report so far.
The original "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" was released in 1969 and had collected four of the seven Academy Awards it was nominated in 1970. Based loosely on historical fact, this American Western film directed by George Roy Hill tells the story of bank robbers Butch Cassidy and his partner The Sundance Kid.

Brad Pitt, Mathew MaConoughy, and Angela Jolie. Period!
I think that Brad Pit should play the part of Robert Redford and Paul Newman's part should be played by Matthew McConehey, not sure if I spelled his last name correctly. They both look like Newman and Redford. Just my thought.
If this is true then they have the wrong people to do the movie. You need a person like Colin Ferrel with higher energy and comedic ability to play butch cassidy and you need someone like Viggo as the strong silent type of the sundance kid.
I think John Travotta is a lovely person and as much as I think he would do a great job in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid I realy think it should be Brad Pitt and George Clooney because them to are so much like them in looks and personality
Not tom cruise in any role. Matthew maconahey and Brad Pitt and Ashely judd. Tom cruise could play the Bolivian Bank manager... period... he is not Paul Newman!!!!! Not john Travolta either. Matthew or no one. Brad or no one. Get on with it and play it right or not at all. Please do not degrade this beautiful movie with poor casting. It could be a hit with the right actors.
I cannot imagine Tom Cruise in either part of this movie and would never go to see it. The original is a true classic that cannot possible be improved upon.

I work in a store, in Telluride CO. that is the location of Butch's first bank robbery. Tom is often seen in town, but he has not come in to see the historical location. He can't be all that interested in Butch
I hate the idea!! Tom Cruise could never give the roll of the Sundance Kid justice!! That movie is a classic and shouldbe left alone!!

Ff they are going to do a remake on this movie , will the writers to change the ending to reflect the true ending of Butch and Sundance's lives or continue to perpetuate their incorrect demise's
