MTV has announced its pick for the hosting job at the 18th annual MTV Movie Awards. Through a press release outed Monday, March 16, it was unveiled that "" funny man, , has been tapped to MC the awards ceremony held at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.

"Andy's connection with the MTV audience is so strong...it's electric," Stephen Friedman, General Manager of MTV, explained on the choosing of Samberg as the host. "The Lonely Island's digi-shorts are genius. We can't wait to see what subversive take he'll have on our audience's favorite movies of the year. We, like Andy's many fans, are thrilled he's decided to grace MTV with his unique talent."

In a press release, Samberg himself has been quoted commenting for his first hosting role for the awards show. "I'm super excited to host the movie awards," he said. "I grew up watching the show and a lot of the past hosts are heroes of mine. Plus my friends and I were writers for the show prior to working at SNL, so it will be a sweet and satisfying homecoming. I can't wait to act really important."

With this designation, Andy Samberg will be joining the ranks of past hosts, including , , and . Aside from his MTV Movie Awards gig, the comedian who made his feature debut in "" will be seen in "", and will lend his vocal in animated film "".

Winners of the 2009 MTV Movie Awards will be announced live on Sunday, May 31 with Mark Burnett and Audrey Morrissey serving as its executive producers. The nominees will be unraveled sometime in the spring, while the official site of the 18th annual MTV Movie Awards was launched on March 16.

this guy is a disgrace to comedy. He shouldnt even be on tv, let alone hosting the awards. His movie Hot Rod was the worst comedy I've seen since Napoleon Dynamite. How about we get rid of samberg and Jon Heder and the comedy business will get better.
