Zac Efron has been named ShoWest 2009 Breakthrough Performer of the Year and he will be presented with the honor at ShoWest's Final Night Banquet and Award Ceremony on Thursday, April 2, at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas. The announcement was made by Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the event, through the press release outed on Thursday, February 26.
"When Zac Efron made his debut, with the cast of 'Hairspray' at ShoWest 2007, many in attendance took notice of this young actor's incredible talent," Neuhauser explained on the reason ShoWest chose the 21-year-old. "His undeniable onscreen presence and charm have connected with fans around the world, and with the impending release of the comedy '17 Again', Zac Efron is poised to break out as a true Hollywood star."
The "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" star is now listed among previously announced honorees, which include "G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra" beauty Sienna Miller, "Star Trek" leading man Chris Pine and "He's Just Not That Into You" star Bradley Cooper. He will next be seen in a starring role as 17-year-old Mike O'Donnell in upcoming comedy "17 Again".

Why are they honoring SM? This must be a new tactic, so someone thinks that giving her awards will make people think that she is a "good person" (despite the fact that she is still reaping havoc in the lives of 5 innocent people).
Zac Efron is very good looking and an excellent actor! I haven't seen "17 Again" yet, but I certainly cant wait! My mum says, and I totally agree with her, that Zac will start moving out of his "disney zone" as we call it, and move on to bigger, better and more serious movies. Im not bagging out HSM or Hairspray; I think they are fantastic movies! Can't wait to see Zac in a few more serious roles in the future! :)
