ABC have confirmed that Nicollette Sheridan, the actress who plays Wisteria Lane resident Edie Britt, will be leaving the network's comedy drama show, 'Desperate Housewives'.

AceShowbiz - Nicollette Sheridan will soon be Edie Britt no more. Ted Casablanca of E! Online has broken the news, reporting that ABC's spokeswoman has let out confirmation that the 45-year-old actress will be leaving "Desperate Housewives", the network's comedy-drama about the lives of a group of women living on the Wisteria Lane.

In addition to the spokeswoman's confirmation, Casablanca noted that Sheridan's representative has also made a comment over the actress' departure. "Nicollette had a great time on the show and is looking forward to her next project," so the rep said as quoted by the columnist.

While ABC gave no further details about when or how Sheridan's character makes the exit from the show, Casablanca wrote in his report that Edie will find out that her husband, Dave Williams, plans to kill her. Trying to save her life, she runs out of the house but will soon get involved in an accident, involving her car and an electrical wire.

Sheridan's departure was first made public by TV Guide magazine. Though the actress is leaving the show, this won't be the first her character left "Desperate Housewives". Edie was driven out of Wisteria Lane by the other housewives in season 4, but returned when the show jumped five years forward in the fall of 2008.
