51st Grammys: Adele Announced as Best New Artist

Adele was named Best New Artist, Coldplay collected another award for Best Rock Song, while Jonas Brothers and Katy Perry rocked the show with their hit singles.

AceShowbiz - Adele was unveiled as Best New Artist during the gala ceremony of 2009 Grammy Awards. While handed the trophy for the prestigious award, she admitted to "gonna cry." Adele was also honored Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her song "Chasing Pavements". Announced on Grammy.com, she won over such contenders as Sara Bareilles' "Love Song", Duffy's "Mercy", Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love", Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl", and Pink's "So What".

Prior to the announcement of Best New Artist, Jonas Brothers entertained audience, teaming up with Stevie Wonder. They delivered the threesome's hit single "Burnin' Up", which is included in the band's third studio album "A Little Bit Longer". Another live performer was Katy Perry, who sang smash hit "I Kissed a Girl".

Coldplay once again took the stage of STAPLES Center, picking up a prize for Best Rock Album. The band's frontman Chris Martin said, "Thank you. We've never had so many Grammys in our lives."
