'Puss in Boots' Hiring TV Writer Tom Wheeler

'Shrek' spin-off, 'Puss in Boots', is gearing up with the joining of TV movie writer Tom Wheeler as its scribbler.

AceShowbiz - "Puss in Boots" has found its script writer in television writer Tom Wheeler. The scribe who is known for his work in mini-series "Empire" and TV movie "The World According to Barnes" has been tapped to tackle the "Shrek" spin-off's screenplay, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Wheeler will work on the animation's draft which has been written by Chris Miller, the co-director and co-writer of "Shrek the Third". Aside from this DreamWorks Animation project, he has recently written the fantasy pilot "Captain Cook's Extraordinary Atlas" for ABC, and is developing the screenplay of "Cutlass Island".

"Puss in Boots" is a stand alone movie for the feline character first introduced in "Shrek 2". Described as a famous ogre assassin, the character which is voiced by Antonio Banderas in the "Shrek" franchise was originally hired by King Harold to kill Shrek, but he went on to become one of the ogre's entourage.

While "Puss in Boots" is yet to have its release date, "Shrek" will present its fourth film, "Shrek Goes Fourth", in the U.S. theaters on May 21, 2010.
