Used to be a shy teenager, Robert Pattinson says he once was obsessed with a girl for years, yet never had the courage to tell her about his feeling.

AceShowbiz - Robert Pattinson, who recently told reporters that he considers himself a gentleman, says he used to have self-esteem issues when he was still a teenager. "I was shy, withdrawn and I didn't have any self-esteem," he admits.

Recalling the old days when he had not yet become one of Hollywood's hottest heartthrobs after starring as Edward Cullen in "Twilight," he shares, "The year that I was 17 was one of the worst of my life, because I was searching for my place [in the world]." He later found out that his self-esteem issues affect his love life.

"I was obsessed with a girl for years but I never talked to her because I was extremely shy," he confesses. "Years later, I told her about it and she was totally shocked because she hadn't noticed anything. But she is the reason I ultimately got into acting." Robert doesn't mention the name of the girl though.

In another Robert Pattinson news, he currently is prepping himself for the filming of "Twilight" sequel, the much awaited "New Moon." Besides, he is having another big screen flick, titled "Little Ashes", to be released in limited U.S. theaters on March 27.
