Corey Taylor of Slipknot wants to give himself a chance of crafting any tracks he wants in a solo studio album.

AceShowbiz - Corey Taylor, the lead singer of Slipknot, has revealed his plan to hit studio for solo debut album. "I know I have this album that I need to make," so the 35-year-old vocalist tells Billboard.

"I'm the kind of guy that if I can't get that done then it's going to hold me back from all this other stuff I want to do," the Stone Sour's founder explains in a statement. "I just know I've got to make it or I can't branch out."

Commenting on recording new songs for the effort, Taylor notes, "I've never let myself get painted into a corner. I've refused to accept the fact that I can't make any kind of music I want." He then adds, "I think it took people a minute to understand that, but now I'm at a point where I can do anything and people will take it seriously."

During another occasion, Corey Taylor claims that recording solo LP gives him a chance to write any kind of songs he wants. He also claims he has written around 40 to 50 songs and still been sorting it out to decide which he wants to be featured on the record.

"It's something that I'd like to do purely for myself," Taylor explains. "It's something that I need to release before I can think about moving on to anything else ... In both SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR I'm slightly limited to how I can write and indeed what I can write about. The beauty of doing a solo album is that I can write whatever type of song I want."

Slipknot meanwhile are preparing to travel across America for a roadshow, starting from January 23 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. After that, they will head up to Missouri, Michigan, New Jersey and other venues for other live concerts. Complete details of the band's upcoming gigs can be checked on their MySpace.
