'Watchmen' Fate Could Be Decided on January 20

Resolution for Fox and Warner Bros. may come sooner as Warner Bros. are asking whether the hearing could be moved up, arguing that 'time is critical'.

AceShowbiz - January 20 could be the fateful day for "Watchmen". According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), both 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. have reached an agreement that allowed Judge Gary A. Feess to decide whether Warner Bros. should be allowed to release the action fantasy movie as planned on March 6 or not.

This injunction stemmed from the ruling Feess issued on Christmas Eve, which favored Fox on the battle to get "Watchmen" distribution rights. Finding that producer Lawrence Gordon had failed to acquire Fox's entire interest in the Zack Snyder-directed movie, it was deemed that Fox still had the rights to the film.

THR further noted that the issue to be discussed is whether the decision will allow Fox to stop the film's release or whether the parties should proceed to a trial over money damages. A "status conference" is set for Friday, January 9, morning, to figure out where the hearing will happen.

Warner Bros. reportedly plan to bring live witnesses to the proceeding, while Fox want Feess to stop the release based on arguments submitted to the judge in writing. The hearing is expected to last two to three days.
