"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" has earned its U.S. rating. According to Rope of Silicon, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has given this sixth feature installment of the "Harry Potter" series with a rather soft rating, PG, for "scary images, some violence, language and mild sensuality."

With the rating, "Half-Blood Prince" will be the first "Harry Potter" movie to receive a PG rating since "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". Two previous installments, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" and "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" have been given a PG-13 rating by the MPAA.

MTV News speculated that the bestowal of the PG rating may have indicated that the movie, which has been claimed by its cast and crew as the darkest compared to the first five, has been toned down. The site further noted that previously producer David Hayman has confirmed that the Battle of Hogwarts had been cut to avoid repetition.

Following Harry Potter in his sixth year at Hogwarts, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" tells the time the threat to the wizarding world by the evil dark wizard Lord Voldemort grows even stronger by day. Directed by David Yates, it stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson among others. It will blast into the U.K. and U.S. big screen on July 17.

Its rated PG because the director thought harry potter was universally accepted and added drugs, rock n roll and all....Atleast it isn't R!!!!

This is retarded. OK, take Voldemort out of the 5th movie and there's really nothing scary in it. Take Voldemort out of 6 (He wasn't even in the book but according to the previews they show him) and there is still a scene with the Inferi which is pretty scary. God, the MPAA is retarded.

They would never make Harry Potter an R. It would alienate way too many kids.

this is bull. it deserves to be pg 13 and the 7th one i was hoping it would be rated R. becuz it shows that they put the main scenes in the book in the movie and not skip parts like the 5th movie did. stupid director.
