'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' Rated PG
Movie

Despite comments from cast and crew that 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' will be the darkest 'Harry Potter' movie released, it has been given a PG rating, instead of PG-13.

AceShowbiz - "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" has earned its U.S. rating. According to Rope of Silicon, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has given this sixth feature installment of the "Harry Potter" series with a rather soft rating, PG, for "scary images, some violence, language and mild sensuality."

With the rating, "Half-Blood Prince" will be the first "Harry Potter" movie to receive a PG rating since "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". Two previous installments, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" and "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" have been given a PG-13 rating by the MPAA.

MTV News speculated that the bestowal of the PG rating may have indicated that the movie, which has been claimed by its cast and crew as the darkest compared to the first five, has been toned down. The site further noted that previously producer David Hayman has confirmed that the Battle of Hogwarts had been cut to avoid repetition.

Following Harry Potter in his sixth year at Hogwarts, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" tells the time the threat to the wizarding world by the evil dark wizard Lord Voldemort grows even stronger by day. Directed by David Yates, it stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson among others. It will blast into the U.K. and U.S. big screen on July 17.
