An interesting tidbit related to Taylor Lautner and his role as Jacob Black in "New Moon" has been brought to the surface by Entertainment Weekly (EW). In its recent article, the publication noted that there is a chance the 16-year-old may get to keep his Native American character in the sequel of vampire drama "Twilight".
According to EW, sources close to the production have suggested that "the simplest route would be to go with Lautner". In addition, one of the insiders was quoted saying, "I'm very hopeful. We're not looking at anybody else." Furthermore, EW reported that Lautner has met with director Chris Weitz and undergone screen-test for chemistry with Kristen Stewart.
In early December, reports about the potential replacement of Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black broke out.
The "Cheaper by the Dozen 2" actor is considered to be too "young-looking and slight of frame to play the maturing werewolf", while the "New Moon" Jacob is described by screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to be "a foot taller and huge" and is "supposed to look 25".
After his name was excluded from the official synopsis, rumors were building up, hinting that "The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior" actor Michael Copon was on the run to take over. But, representative for the actor was quick to turn down the speculations. Meanwhile, Lautner himself revealed that he is fighting to keep the role by gaining 19 pounds and promising to pack on 10 more before shooting starts.
"New Moon", an adaptation to Stephenie Meyer's second novel of her "Twilight" series, is penned by "Twilight" screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg and will be directed by "The Golden Compass" director Chris Weitz. It still follows the romantic story between Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson).
Centering on the personal conflict Bella experiences, the follow-up movie will chronicle the time Bella Swan is left devastated by the abrupt departure of Edward Cullen. Finding solace in her friendship with Jacob Black, she soon finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves and her loyalty to the vampires is tested. The production of "New Moon" is scheduled to begin in the coming months for November 20, 2009 release.

Although many people think that it would be best to change the actor for jacob black because he looks to young,I think that with the makeup artists expertease you will be able to change his look to a more sharp,bold look. Furthermore i think that the change of actor will confuse and disapoint many fans.

GROAN!!! No offense to the Taylor kid - but no way I am going to buy him as a near 7 foot 25 year old werewolf! Plus I didn't find his acting in the movie very good - his scenes with Bella seemed awkward. Now that Michael Copon looks like he would fit the part perfect - definately sexy and with a nice smile (like Jacob).

i personally love taylor, and would love him to come back, but if they have to replace him i guess it's for the best...even so wouldn't that mean they would have to replace the actors who played sam and embry? They can make Taylor look as big as thay want. Just look at how big movie magic made Hagrid in Harry Potter.
Taylor MUST be replaced. I don't have anything against the guy but he's not just the character in the book. Why exhaust all resources to digitally bulk up Taylor when they could get someone who fits the Jacob physique without having to go through all digital enhancements? Why worry about fan-base when Pattinson alone can get as many viewers to see the movie. Rob was almost a nobody before Twilight. But people learned to love him. Getting Lautner is impractical. A lot of people who know the book by heart will be trully disappointed, no offense to Lautner fans.

A lot of what EW says are just rumors. Taylor would be fine for the pre-werewolf Jacob but he wouldn't do justice to the werewolf Jacob. They need to cast another actor for this role. Be reasonable and stop being so stubborn, guys.
