Troubled country singer Mindy McCready was hospitalized in a Nashville-area hospital on Wednesday morning, December 17 after an apparent suicide attempt. The 33-year-old star was taken to nearby Centennial Hospital for a psychological evaluation Tuesday night, December 16 after her brother, Timothy McCready, "discovered that she had cut her wrists and taken several pills."
The incident report filed by Nashville's Metropolitan Police Department stated Mindy arrived at Timothy's house "intoxicated" at 3:30 A.M. Tuesday, following a night of drinking in downtown Nashville. She then immediately went to bed.
Three hours later, their mother Gayle Inge told Timothy that Mindy gave her a "disturbing call" and so asked him to check on her. He first found Mindy stumbling in the kitchen before then going back to her room, calling her assistant to come over because "she had done something bad." Upon checking on his sister in her bedroom, Timothy found her bed had blood on it.
Speaking of Mindy's apparent suicide attempt, Kris Mumford, a Nashville Police Department spokeswoman said, "We responded to a '10-63,' that's a suicidal person call. Mindy McCready was at the house." Police reportedly requested a psychiatric evaluation following the incident, and according to a source, Mindy remained hospitalized.
Mindy McCready's apparent suicide attempt came hot on the heels of other bad news. Back in July this year, she overdosed on drugs and alcohol, which forced her to be sent to the emergency room at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She later checked into a Texas rehab facility following the nervous breakdown. In October, she was ordered to serve 31 days in jail for violating the terms of her probation from a 2004 guilty plea for fraudulently obtaining prescription painkillers.
