On Tuesday, December 9, the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) has unveiled their selections of movies and performers to compete in the 14th annual Critics' Choice Awards. Through the press conference at the MTV Network studios in Times Square, it is revealed that both "Milk" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" have shown strong domination with eight nominations for the awards.
The two drama movies will be up against each other in five categories, Best Picture, Best Director, Best Writer, Best Composer, Best Acting Ensemble and Best Actor, Sean Penn for "Milk" and Brad Pitt for "Benjamin Button". Beside those nods, "Milk" has also given two Best Supporting Actor gongs for James Franco and Josh Brolin, while "Benjamin Button" lands Best Actress count for Cate Blanchett and Best Supporting Actress nomination for Taraji P. Henson.
Announced by Academy Award-nominated actress Rosie Perez, "At the Movies" hosts, Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz, and VH1 President Tom Calderone, the unraveling of the Critics' Choice Awards contenders also sees "The Dark Knight", "Doubt" and "Slumdog Millionaire" collecting six nominations each. In addition, actor-turned-director Clint Eastwood receives Best Actor nomination for his performance on "Gran Torino" and Best Composer gong for "Changeling".
Winners of the 14th annual Critics' Choice Awards will be announced on a gala on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. The ceremony will be once again broadcast live by VH1 at 9:00 P.M. (ET/PT). The network will also air a preshow entitled "14th Annual Critics' Choice Awards Red Carpet Premiere Featuring Maria Menounos" at 8 P.M. (ET/PT). The preshow will also be streamed live on VH1.com.
