Marvel Comics hero Thor will be adapted into an animated series premiering after its big screen version in 2010.

AceShowbiz - Thor, the blonde-tressed and hammer-wielding hero, will be adapted into a TV series developed by Marvel Animation. A 26 half-hour episode series reportedly is on the agenda to be premiered sometime in fall 2010, a few months after its big screen version is scheduled to hit the U.S. theaters on July 16, 2010.

No title has been suggested but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will follow Thor as he "defends his mythical home of Asgard against fantastical villains, fiendish hordes, winged creatures and angry giants." Apart from presenting various locations, the series will also include characters from its comic versions such as Balder the Brave, the Warriors Three and Thor's evil adopted brother, Loki.

As little as it is dished out on the TV version, "Thor" the movie is also scarce in confirmed details of who will direct and play the titular character. "Stardust" director Matthew Vaughn was said to be the helmer of the project but then there was also a report that Kenneth Branagh will take over the job.

Eric Rollman, the president of animation for Marvel explained that the series version is deliberately produced to be premiered after the movie version is released in theaters. Another Marvel cartoon series "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" is also in the work for a 2010 release after the dropping of two Marvel Studios live-action projects "The First Avenger: Captain America" and "The Avengers".
