The family drama in the Duff's clan is going to the worse level. Bob Erhard Duff, the father of celebrity siblings Hilary Duff and Haylie Duff, has on Wednesday, August 27 been sentenced to 10 days in jail for contempt of court for violating a court order in his divorce case with his daughters' mother Susan Colleen Cobb that prohibited him from selling off assets without her consent.
The Houston Chronicle which broke report on Bob's arrest wrote on its site that he and Susan argued during the hearing in family court over cash for Hilary's upcoming 21st birthday. She asked a total of $25,000 from him to pay for a present and party that will measure up to the one they threw for older sister Haylie back in 2006.
At the hearing, Susan even testified that the $10,000 monthly support payments she receives from Bob are not even enough to pay her own bills thus she couldn't afford paying for such lavish birthday bash for Hilary who's going to turn 21 on September 28. She furthermore revealed to have been relying on Hilary for financial help to pay her legal and other bills.
Insisting Hilary deserves the party and present "to have some kind of recognition for a young life well-lived", Susan claimed her celebrity daughter "is emotionally upset by the abandonment of her father." She alleged that Bob could get the money she asks from the same place he got money to buy presents for the sons of his current girlfriend.
The hearing turned into a heated argument when lawyers for Bob and Susan wouldn't stop accusing each other of "lying and acting unethically." Both parties stopped arguing only after Judge Thomas Stansbury ordered Bob to pay $12,500 to Susan for Hilary's birthday. The worst of all was when Stansbury sentenced Bob to 10 days behind bars, accusing him for contempt of court for selling stocks last month.
Earning $367,537 from his action, Bob was ordered to hand over the cash to a court repository which will be in charge to hold the cash while his and Susan's divorce battle keeps rolling. Bob, at the end of the hearing, was fingerprinted by the authorities and handcuffed. No comment just yet from either Hilary or Haylie about their father's arrest.

I usually don't comment on others personal life, but any way in this case I am in favour with Hilary's mother. She should get the money to support her life. Moreover, miss little Duff should throw her own party by her self as she has her own earning. Any way It's just a comment from me.
it's sad to hear about this, but at least hilary's mom is fighting for her daughters, and only wants the best for them. for those of you thinking hilary should buy her own gifts and throw her own party, why would ANYONE do that?! do YOU buy your own gifts? No matter how rich you are, when you're in the business, parents always buy you gifts. and when your parents have money, THEY throw the children parties. hilary's father has the money, he owns a chain of convenience stores in texas! duh! this is all part of the divorce! the dad is SUPPOSED to give the mom money! in his situation, he has to, and should just give the money. at least hilary's mom doesn't have favorites, and wants to be fair w/ the amount of money for birthdays. Poor Hilary though, she's always been so gracious, classy, beautiful, and talented. you can say otherwise, but it's true. She's always maintained her dignity, and you can't deny that. she's not like all those other teen sluts flashing there vaginas, going to rehab, and taking naked pics. i hope hilary gets that big birthday bash. 21 is a milestone age, and definetly can't go uncelebrated! it's a big birthday for most ppl, so for a super famous girl, $25,000 for a gift and party isn't a lot! hope they get through this! TEAM HILARY!!!
