The actor who played General Ayel in the upcoming 'Star Trek', Clifton Collins Jr., unveiled that the Romulans will be portrayed as space pirates.

AceShowbiz - In the latest "Star Trek" movie, Vulcans-related Romulans won't be seen only as the baddies but also as something more. Talking about the villains of J.J. Abrams-directed "Star Trek", actor Clifton Collins Jr. revealed that the filmmakers have come out with a new image for the Romulans and it goes deeper than merely losing the pointed ears.

Revealing to E! Online about the matter, the depicter of Nero's right hand, General Ayel, said, "Me and Eric are the new Romulans. They had a linguist come in and invent Romulan!" He further suggested that this new breed of villains may somewhat inspired by "Pirates of the Caribbean" stating, "We're space pirates. Think of Johnny Depp as a Romulan."

Apart from giving a ray of lights to the villains, Collins also spoke about the possible surprise appearances. "There is, but I better not say," he teased. "There are certain things that as kids growing up, whether it's Star Trek or other shows at the time, all you got to do is really just hear their voice and your heart warms."

Scripted by "Transformers" writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, "Star Trek" focuses on the young James T. Kirk and his USS Enterprise crew members when they are still at Starfleet Academy. It will be outed in theaters on May 8, 2009.

The Paramount Pictures' movie will introduce the characters with their new depicters, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and Anton Yelchin, as well as bringing back an old face Leonard Nimoy.
