Continuing its annual celebration of honoring best films and Hollywood's talents, MTV is gearing up for 17th MTV Movie Awards by announcing the list of nominees up for the golden popcorn statuettes on Tuesday, May 6. Among those nominated for the special event, Judd Apatow's comedy "Superbad" and Jason Reitman's acclaimed dramedy "Juno" show off their dominations by collecting 5 and 4 nods respectively.
Though mostly the two movies garnered gongs in different categories, they would have to battle it up for the supreme prize, Best Movie award. In the particular category, they also will be facing stiff competitions from four other blockbuster nominees, "Transformers", "Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End", "I Am Legend" and "National Treasure: Book of Secrets".
Besides landing the Best Movie count, "Superbad" and "Juno" also put up its young cast ensemble, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Michael Cera and Ellen Page, for other prizes. "Superbad" brings Best Comedic Performance and Breakthrough Performance nominations for Hill and Breakthrough for Cera and Mintz-Plasse, whereas "Juno" puts up Page and Cera for Best Female Performance, Best Male Performance and Best Kiss gongs.
Aside from the two films and those thesps, the nominations also see Johnny Depp, Denzel Washington, Angelina Jolie, Topher Grace and Javier Bardem to compete for Best Villain. Additionally, in the category of Best Summer Movie So Far, MTV gave the nods to "Iron Man", "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull", "Sex and the City", "Speed Racer" and "The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian".
The ceremony of 2008 MTV Movie Awards will be held on June 1 and will be broadcast live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. The event will hosted for the second time by comedian Mike Myers. The complete nominees list can be seen via MTV or simply read it below.
