AceShowbiz - Hip hop artist Akon made up his felonious past, Thesmokinggun.com claims. The Senegalese music star is claimed to have lied about his criminal past, especially that he was the "ringleader of a notorious car theft operation" and served a four-and-a-half year prison sentence. Exposing Akon's alleged lie, the website has published police reports that prove he never set foot behind bars, much contrary to his claim.
Akon has exposed his criminal history in such hit albums, as "Trouble" and "Konvicted". He once even publicly declared during the promotion of the earlier-mentioned LP that he served four and a half years in a Georgia prison way back in the 1990s as the "ringleader of a notorious car theft operation" and for owning four chop shops frequented by "celebrities and drug dealers."
Much contrary to his claim, the legal documents obtained by Thesmokinggun reveal that he was arrested in 1998 for merely stealing a BMW and ended up being held in a DeKalb County jail for five months before prosecutors dropped all charges against him and granted him three years probation.
Akon additionally also claimed that, after being ratted out by jealous lower-ranking peeps who cut deals with the cops, he spent three years in a Georgia prison, facing upwards of 75 years in the joint, having to fend for himself behind bars as a "150-pound inmate" who "fought almost every day for two years" and being feared by fellow prisoners.
In total, Akon has been arrested on six occasions, with only one felony which was for a gun-possession to which he pleaded guilty and received three years probation. The rest, which were all minor exploits, aside from the car stunt, did not lead to any significant jail time though.
Notwithstanding with Thesmokinggun claim that Akon made up his criminal past, the stories have indeed given him the inspiration to write many of his hit singles and albums which help him to become a sold-out artist who sells millions of records.
