The 20th Century Fox's animated film featuring the voices of Jim Carrey and Steve Carell 'Horton Hears a Who!' has shot to the first slot of the three-days weekend box office ended Sunday, March 16.

AceShowbiz - The 20th Century Fox' comedy animation film "Horton Hears a Who!" opened up strong on the North American three-days weekend box office ended Sunday, March 16 as the film that teamed up comic actors, Jim Carrey and Steve Carell, dominated the theatrical sales chart. According to Sunday's estimates done by Box Office Mojo, the movie adapted from Dr. Seuss' novel has pulled in $45 million during its opening weekend.
Aside from nailing the number one spot, "Horton" also successfully became the film with the biggest opening of the year so far breaking the previous record held by "Cloverfield" which brought in $40.1 million on its debut weekend. Further, though the movie exceeded the film industry expectation for its debut weekend, it still shied from the opening weekend successes landed by the 2000's Dr. Seuss' movie "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" that bowed in $55.1 million and by Carrey's other film "Bruce Almighty" that got $68 million.
Pushed to the second place by the Jimmy Hayward and Steve Martino-directed film was last week's champion "10,000 B.C.". On its second week screening, the Roland Emmerich's drama adventure epic experienced a 53.2|percent| drop in sales and thus only managed to gather in $16.7 million. Following "B.C." in the third slot with $8.6 million was another newcomer, the Summit Entertainment's martial art movie "Never Back Down", whereas last week's runner-up "College Road Trip" starring Martin Lawrence and Raven-Symone slipped to the fourth place grossing $7.8 million.
Further, the drama thriller about the assassination of a U.S. president seen from 8 different point of views, "Vantage Point", filled in the fifth spot by garnering $5.5 million and with the total four-week cume of $59.3 million. Another crime thriller film got in the top ten box office chart was "The Bank Job". The Lions Gate Films featuring action man Jason Statham pulled in about $5.1 million and landed on the sixth position. Meanwhile, new sci-fi thriller "Doomsday" experienced a major flop on the box office banking a disappointing $4.9 million on its debut weekend.
The last three places on the top ten saw familiar faces from New Line Cinema's comedy "Semi-Pro", Columbia Pictures' romantic drama "The Other Boleyn Girl" and Paramount Pictures' fantasy adventure "The Spiderwick Chronicles" in respective orders. The three films each earned $3 million, $2.9 million and $2.3 million respectively.
